Day 12: Rest Day in Bratislava
Yesterday, Henryk and I took the tram into the city of Bratislava. We walked to all the major sites of the city, such as The Blue Church of St. Elizabeth, the UFO Tower, St. Martin’s Cathedral, Čumil Statue, the Old Town square, Michael’s Gate, and Bratislava Castle. The city is small enough to be explored in a day. Apparently, the population of Bratislava is only about 600,000, not even reach a million residents. I feel the city is the perfect size for me if I were to live here.
We came back to Henryk’s place around 3:30 PM. I took the opportunity to change the oil in the gear hub of my bicycle. When Henryk finished his meeting, we went to dinner at Len tak and shared a dish of duck leg and a dish of pork shank. Both were very good.
Since Henryk works as an HR consultant, I asked him what kind of jobs would suit me if I were to return to work after traveling. He told me to find something that I enjoy doing and that I’m good at. Also it’s better to do something that I don’t have to start all over again since I’m not young anymore. We landed on the role of project management since I’m good at organizing and able to plan for long bike tours. I also have background in technology and finance, among other skills. Even though I had thought about teaching English in China or continue with IT, I think project management sounds interesting and I should look into taking a course. The other options are to work in nonprofits or becoming a tour guide since I like traveling. But for some reason, I like the idea of being a project manager.
I only spent two days with Henryk and I already feel that we will be friends in the long term. Maybe one day we will bike tour somewhere together.
This morning, I woke up at 5:45 AM. I will leave at 8:30 AM and ride about 40 miles to Vienna and stay at a hostel for two nights so I can explore the city for a day. I might stay an extra night depending on how I feel.
Can’t believe this is a high school.
